Their drinking session eventually led to sex

THEY were so close they even went out for drinking sessions at coffee shops together.

Those drinking sessions brought the father and daughter "emotionally closer".

And it was one such drinking session that led to their relationship becoming sexual.

That happened in April 2008.

They had sex in the master bedroom when the man's wife was not at home.

He was lying on the bed, while she sat at the edge of the bed checking her e-mail on her laptop.

The woman had been sharing a bedroom with her parents, sleeping on a mattress next to the bed.

They argued when he tried talking to her and felt that she didn't want to. She later apologised and they hugged.

Then, they had sex.

In January last year, the court was told that the pair had been sharing an intimate relationship since 2006, when they started hugging and kissing.

They then started petting each other when they were alone in the family flat.

It was revealed that the man had particularly doted on the woman, his first-born child.

Sometime after they had sex, he apologised when she said she was afraid she would get pregnant.

A week later, they argued as he felt she was being disrespectful by talking back to him.

The woman wanted to study part-time, but he wanted her to do it full-time.

In the evening, the argument became so heated that the daughter sent a text message to a friend, asking her to call the police on her behalf.

Earlier that year, the girl had told the same friend that she did not like her father sexually touching her.

That friend then called the police and when they arrived at the family flat, the woman said her father molested her. He was arrested.

In March 2010, the pair was expected to be charged with incest.

But he fled the country and in September the same year, the daughter, who was working as a technical executive, was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal due to his disappearance.

He was arrested at Changi Airport on Oct 21 the same year, when he tried to re-enter Singapore.

He was convicted on Jan 31 last year and sentenced to three years' jail.

For incest, he could have been jailed for five years.
